Research Interests: - Pathogenesis of chronic virus infections is the theme of the research, predominantly focusing on the early immune events upon viral-host contacts. The overall research interests are to use up-to-date technology to understand the diseases induced by chronic virus infections. These include understanding and dissecting the pathogenesis of herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE) and herpes simplex keratitis (HSK) due to recurrent herpes virus infection, and of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF)/dengue shock syndrome (DSS) due to dengue virus infection. The complicated relationship between virus and host is the predominant challenge task we have to face daily. The research focus is to dissect the effects of virus-host interactions on up and down regulation of innate immune response and/or cytokine productions in viruses infected animals, as this directly affects viral load in the infected organs and therefore is an important factors in the pathogenesis of virus infections.
